Dewar’s Blended Scotch Whisky

John Dewar, born 1805, founded his business in 1846 and pioneered the art of carefully blending up to 40 single malt and single grain whiskies together to make a Scotch that was fine, smooth and never varied.

The first launch in Dewar’s 8 Year Old Cask Series, a blend of up to 40 single malts and grain whiskies that have been matured for at least eight years, it is then ‘double aged’ in oak casks for extra smoothness, then finished in ex-rum casks.

Bringing about the vibrancy and colourful flavours that embody Portugal and Scotland, Portuguese Smooth has undergone a double ageing process for extra smoothness and then finished in Ruby Port casks creating an approachable and smooth whisky with a difference.

Part of the Dewar’s 8 Year Old Cask Series,  Japanese Smooth has undergone a double ageing process for extra smoothness and then finished in Japanese (Mizunara) Oak Casks creating an approachable and smooth whisky with an extraordinary difference.

Marking the exact date John Dewar opened his store – 15 May 1846 – the limited edition 175 blend was created by our Master Blender Stephanie Macleod and her team using carefully selected whiskies from across the ages of the distillery’s inventory, all of which were filled into cask on 15 May.

Dewar’s 12 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky is famous for its ‘double-ageing’, due to six months of resting in oak casks after initial maturation and blending. The result? Extra smoothness and a whisky with notes of vanilla, dark caramel, and sultanas.

With the limited edition new ‘Double Double’ range, this process has become an art form, with a ‘quadruple aging’ or ‘double double’ aging process created by Dewar’s Master Blender Stephanie Macleod. This 21-year-old release has been finished in Oloroso Sherry casks, giving the whisky “subtle notes of cinnamon and ripe vine fruits with a silky smooth finish”.

Dewar’s Double Double 27 Year Old is finished in Palo Cortado sherry casks and this blend delivers heady, aromatic, floral notes with honeyed fruits and subtle spice and the characteristic silky smooth finish.

Undergoing our unique four-stage aging process, this 36 year old release has been finished in Madeira casks, giving the whisky flavour notes of ripe peaches, coconut oil and vanilla, all enveloped in a smooth and creamy texture that is both balanced and complex.
